Tales of the Cities is a website base audiovisual chronicle project. The process is to record stories also memories about geographical specific in one location. This project will collect stories with local issues, a very personal relation among persons in society. Using about 1-10 minutes recording by video. It’s kind a new experience in story telling also listen to stories from moving images (video), as a part of visual history in society aside from television. We always hear a big naration about how one monument or high building was built. But here, the small tales will liven up. Tales could changed people perception about one place or city.
This time, Tales of the Cities #1, I made a visual diary about a city through videos from my point of view when i live in Ansan City-South Korea for 2 months. It’s not specifically a story about Ansan, it can be anywhere, but most of all it’s a small stories about Korea. Video will be presented in one specific website. The story of each videos will be converted to the QR code and would stick and placed back to that locations as a sticker then it can be accessed directly by using a mobile phone. The QR code refers to the URL address of each story. It’s all about a response of citizen journalism and the prosumer (producer-consumer) generation growth, where the production control is not always in a big media’s hand.
Audiences can watch those stories by standing in right location, and get involved the physical experiences interactively. The intimacy involvement of a place can give some new visual history in contemporary society conditions. The tales of hidden identity of cities not only stay silently in city dweller memories. This is a pilot project and will continue to grow organically and even continue to grow with other stories.
